What Does Your LSAT Score Mean?
By Blueprint Test Prep
Your LSAT score can change your life. This might seem a bit melodramatic, but lots of things that are melodramatic are also true. Such as the fact that if you’re seventeen and going to the prom, your life might end if you don’t get the dress you want. Or that if Sandra Bullock doesn’t kick Jesse James to the curb, we here at Blueprint Test Prep will never watch another one of her movies ever again. (Which would mean losing Speed and Miss Congeniality).
Why the LSAT is so Important:
Your LSAT score is the single biggest factor in law school admissions. At Blueprint Test Prep, we’ve found there are lots of reasons for this, including the fact that the test is easier to standardize than GPAs. (Think about it – how do you compare a student with a 4.0 from Arizona State who majored in General Studies with a student with a 3.2 from Berkeley who majored in Physics?) Note: Blueprint Test Prep makes no judgments, but suspects the Arizona State student may have had a happier time of it.
Because of this, your LSAT score plays a big part in the caliber of law school you’ll attend. All things being equal, the higher the score, the better the school; the better the school, the better the law firms that recruit from the law school; the better the law firm, the bigger the starting salary; and the bigger your starting salary, the more attractive your spouse. So by the Blueprint Test Prep theory of transitivity, the better your LSAT score, the better looking your significant other will be. Disclaimer: Blueprint Test Prep doesn’t think this is true. Your own attractiveness also plays an important role.
Why It’s Important Even Though You Don’t Think it Is:
Now, there are all kinds of caveats to the above equation. Perhaps you don’t really care about going to a premier law school or earning a large salary with a big law firm. However, a high LSAT score will still open doors for you. For instance, we’ve had students at Blueprint Test Prep who have parlayed an offer at a highly ranked law school into a full ride at a lower ranked law school.
Similarly, you might want to work for a non-profit organization such as Green Peace or for the government as a district attorney. However, our research at Blueprint Test Prep indicates such positions are highly competitive. As such, graduating from a good law school will still help you in the application process. In the end, even if your aspirations for your legal career are humble, it’s still worth doing well on the test, particularly with payoffs such as increased options and scholarship money. Which is why we advise our Blueprint Test Prep students to take the exam seriously and study a great deal.
