When to Take the LSAT?
By Blueprint Test Prep
Our Blueprint Test Prep students often ask us when is the best time to take the LSAT. What they’re looking for is whether or not there’s an easier time to take the test—as if the February administration might be easier than December, or that June might be easiest of all.
If you think about this for even a moment, you’ll realize it can’t possibly be true. If there were to be an easier administration of the LSAT, everyone would take it. Also, the purpose of the LSAT is to help law schools distinguish between applicants by standardizing the tests as much as possible (hence the standardized in standardized test). This goes out the window if one test is easier than the others as everyone who took that administration would have scores that wouldn’t really count.
So, that leaves you with choosing between four administrations of the LSAT, none of which are discernibly easier than the others. However, this does not mean that there are not factors to be considered! We at Blueprint Test Prep have put together a list of pros and cons to help you decide which LSAT administration is the right one for you.
December
Pro: last administration for the year that every law school will accept
Con: last administration for the year that every law school will accept. This means that your application will be fairy low down in the pack. Since most law schools give away seats as applications come in, we at Blueprint Test Prep advise applying earlier if possible.
June
Pro: the only test administered in the afternoon and therefore a favorite of Blueprint Test Prep staff who suspect waking earlier than 9AM may indicate a deep moral failing
Con: most studying will occur during the school year, which can interfere with things like history class and toga parties
At Blueprint Test Prep, we recommend the June test to our students if you have the time to study for it during the school year.
September/October
Pro: can study during the summer for the most part and applications will be in early
Con: will be studying during the summer when you really want to be meeting Carla/Carlos in Ibiza
We at Blueprint Test Prep recommend this administration because it often gives students the most free time to study for it.
February
Pro: can study during winter break while eating holiday cookies. (At Blueprint Test Prep, we recommend those shaped like stars with pink sprinkles).
Con: some schools won’t accept the February LSAT for the same year, so it’s either a very early or very late test. We recommend that our Blueprint students prep for the February test a year before they apply so they can still get in their applications early.
